Buy Don't Hold @ ETFScreen.com

This page supports our users who follow Les Masonson‘s ETF investing strategy explained in his book, Buy - DON‘T Hold (BDH), and his blog. He says "ETFs are the preferred investment vehicle" and recommends 42 of them.

His BDH Version 2 Dashboard‘s "buy" and "sell" signals are based on four indicators (reduced from eight original indicators; see this Table for details). He posts the signals (plus analysis of recent market activity) every weekend and whenever they flash a significant change.

The BDH strategy uses Relative Strength (RS) to select ETFs to buy and when to sell them as their performance falls (the Dashboard signals when to sell all of your ETFs as the market falls). Relative Strength compares the return of one ETF‘s price to that of other ETFs and then ranks them in order from highest to lowest return. It‘s labeled Rtn (Total Return), including price appreciation and dividends, throughout ETFScreen.com.

BDH recommends buying the top 5 ETFs based on 6-month RS data and three criteria, and selling when an ETF falls below the 20th rank. The ETFs are ranked by their 6-month RS. The BDH Decision Page provides a tool for identifying ETFs that meet the Initial Tests of the criteria, as well as access to charts to confirm they do and their rankings. Note that there are 42 ETFs listed on the Decision page and that fixed income and inverse ETFs are excluded as they would not be bought on a Buy signal.

The funds below are a broad sampling of the 42 ETFs in his selected universe. All the funds are detailed in the Decision Page and the stats from the side panel menu. Les currently recommends that the top 5 ETFs based on 6-month relative strength be purchased the next business day on any new Dashboard V2 BUY signals.
